The Dutch language article ‘Hiaten bij hoogbegaafde kinderen‘ (‘Gaps in school competencies in gifted children’) has appeared in the May issue of Jeugd in School en Wereld (JSW), the professional magazine concerning primary and special education as well as teacher training. The article discusses several factors that play a role in the development of ‘gaps’ in school competencies among gifted children, including holistic learning, motivation and attention. Some implications for primary education are addressed. Finally, a few pertinent questions shall be raised concerning the common use of ‘one-size-fits-all’ solutions in curriculum development for gifted children.
